Winter Reading List
The snow bear
is a cute little story about a little polar bear who makes a big bear made from
snow while he waits for his mother to come find him. Throughout the story
different arctic animals come to help create the snow bear. This book we
purchased for the illustrations though. The art is beautiful, and the pages are
textured, so you can feel the bumps along the animal’s fur and the snowflakes. It
is a nice slow-paced story on a cold night before bed.

Honeydukes: A Scratch & Sniff Adventure by Dahpne Pendergrass and Jenna Ballard
This one is pretty self explanatory. They kids love the scratch and sniff pages filled with different candy pictures from the Harry Potter Movies. It is one that is often pulled out when we are thinking towards holiday baking or for reading on the way to visit family.
So Much Snow by Robert Munsch and Michael Martchenko
A book about a snow day, this is a fun one for a snowy winter day when the kids are bored and can’t decide what to do. Jasmine can relate as she wants it all! School day, snow day, and pizza day too, despite the big blizzard that rolls in to her town.
Thomas’ Snowsuit by Robert Munsch and Michael Martchenko
This is one book any parent can relate to. It is about a little boy who refuses to wear his snowsuit! This cute story has both parents and kids giggling about the silly antics that happen when the grown ups try and put Thomas’ snow suit on him before he goes outside.
Fall Reading List
Llama Llama Misses Mama by Anna Dewdney.
If you are not already familiar with this book, it is definitely a must read in early fall. As the kids prepare to head to preschool or Kindergarten, or even back to school from summer break, this great read reminds kids that it is ok to miss your parents, but that school can be fun and Moms always come back.
Fancy Nancy and the Fall Foliage by Jane O’Connor and Robin Priess Glasser.
One of our favorite things about Fall is stomping on the crunchy leaves and going for walks to see all the colors. The kids love reaching for this book as the leaves change. It is not only a great short read about the changing of the seasons, but it also gives them lots of fun art ideas to do with the falling leaves.
Splat the Cat and the Pumpkin Picking Plan by Rob Scotton.
This one is quite short, but lots of fun. It takes the kids on an adventure to the pumpkin patch as Splat goes on a mission to find the perfect pumpkin. This book is especially good for learning to read.
The Bear Detectives and the Case of the missing pumpkin by Stan and Jan Berenstain.
This treasure was found in a pile of books that were saved from my childhood and we still love it today. This Berenstain Bears book is not only nostalgic and fall themed, but it also rhymes! It’s a fun night time read about the Berenstain Bears looking for a prize winning pumpkin that went missing at a fall fair.
Our Thanksgiving Bookshelf
Franklin’s Thanksgiving by Paulette Bourgeois and Brenda Clark
Franklin’s Grandparents cannot make it to thanksgiving this year, so Franklin and his family invite their friends over for dinner instead. Only, they are trying to surprise each other so no one knows who is actually coming. This is a cute story to read with our kids as the holiday approaches.
Run Turkey Run by Diane Mayr
This is a really cute one that keeps the younger kids laughing. The target audience for this book is 3-5 years. Run Turkey Run is a story about a turkey who is trying to hide from a farmer on Thanksgiving and tries to hide amongst the other farm animals.
Our Halloween Bookshelf
We Love Halloween at our house. It is one of our favorite holidays, so of course, we have many Halloween themed books that we enjoy reading together as the holiday approaches.
Franklins Halloween by Paulette Bourgeios and Brenda Clark
This one is great for kids who are a little frightened of Halloween. Franklin dresses up and attends his school’s Halloween party where he and his friends have plenty of fun with their not so spooky activities.
Fancy Nancy Candy Bonanza by Jane O’Connor and Robin Glasser
This is a great little read about the fun of trick or treating, but the dangers of eating too much candy.
The Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat by Stan and Jan Berenstain
Another great story about young ones going trick or treating, but this time there the message of not judging someone based on appearances thrown in.
Room On the Broom by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler (the creators of the Gruffalo)
Like the Gruffalo, Room on the Broom has a great flow to it. It’s a fun book for beginning readers and preschoolers to read. This is a book about a good witch who flies on her broomstick and gives other animals a ride as well. While this book can be read anytime, we seem to read it most around Halloween.
Scaredy Cat Splat! By Rob Scotton
Another splat the cat book for our list. In this one Splat is scared of most things that have to do with Halloween, but he has fun with his classmates in the end. This one is well liked by preschoolers and is also great for those learning to read.
Boo! By Robert Munsch and Michael Martchenko
Robert Munsch Books are always a good choice, and this Halloween book is no exception. Boo! Is about a boy named lance who paints his face to go trick or treating, but he makes it so very very scary that he scares everyone.
Monster Trucks by Anika Denise and Nate Wragg
This one is great for the car and truck lovers in your family. It’s a book about a truck race…with a twist. The trucks are actual monsters! There is a Ghost truck, a zombie truck, and even a vampire truck. Check out this fun read to see who wins the race in the end.
